The plot in the seaside of Varkiza was selected for its key location in the Athenian Riviera and the south suburbs of Attica. It allows for the development of a residential building complex within a walking distance of just 2 minutes from the seafront. The project will achieve an A+ Energy Class rating and include a total of 9 properties – 3 garden maisonettes with pool for exclusive use, 4 apartments to the second and third floor and 2 top floor sky-garden maisonettes.
The building volume is placed centrally and evolves along the main axis of the plot to create a structure that frames the view, allowing to create 8 south oriented properties 6 of whom are facing both orientations and 1 facing the north. The envelope of the building folds like a sheet of paper, the living spaces are revealed, the gaze is directed towards the view, light enters the interior unobstructed and the living spaces extend themselves outdoors.
To meet the functional and aesthetic needs of its future residents, Afroditi’s project aims to constitute an exemplary case of contemporary architecture – in terms of its integration into the natural environment and the city, the functionality and organization of its living spaces, the careful management of environmental parameters (such as the views, the orientation and the light) and the application of contemporary materials, technologies and construction techniques.
